What does everyone think about this game and who do you think will win? I believe VV will win by 2 Touchdowns but they have a tough game ahead of them. I wish both teams the best of luck and hopefully it will be a fair played game and no ref favorites. It tends to be a problem when teams travel to Cinci to play games. But I just hope everyone stays healthy and no one gets hurt. May the best team win.

I agree with you on the Defense. Dement will have that defense together. Dements biggest problem on defense is the offense. The offense does not stay on the field long enough to give the defense time to rest.

I do not think we need to get rid of all the coaches. But something has to change at the top. Either the head coach needs to change his style, demeanor, and offense (back to basics) or the program needs to change its head coach.

Obviously some of you are closer to the politics of the football program than I.Lets just look at what we have now and analyze it. What I saw friday was a team that could not take care of the football. If you add 21 points to Fairmonts talley(Alter would still have 39 because after all they are a state powerhouse ,division dose not matter, they are good) the score would be 39-28. Thats a respectful showing. The offensive play calling was not dreadful, the defense did look a little off but having watched Coach Dement's defense over the years Iam confident hewill get it turned around. My big concern are the injuries that occured to key people, not something a coach can control.

Lot's of opinions here about what has happened at Bellbrook. I do agree that complacency is a problem with the football program. I think that Base could be a better coach but there seems to be something missing. In regards to the comments about the "good old boys" that has to be fairly limited to football & more likely basketball. I've seen a guy like Luse be very successful over the years and he is very close to his players and parents. Some of the other coaching positions are like a revolving door every year which hurts the kids sometimes.
Bellbrook is going through what Springboro went through many years ago growth wise. It's painful but inevitable. More kids fighting for the same number of positions at the younger levels leads to a loss of interest and sometimes that's from your more talented kids. But, if the kids are not coming out or quitting because of the coaches then that's a whole different set of problems.

We know they have no chance against Centerville, Wayne, Lakota West, and Northmont. And Beavercreek wants Fairmont in a bad way. All of those head coaches will out prep and play Fairmont's coach.

So if I was a betting man I would say 4-6. (MBurg, Lebanon, Butler, Springfield)

Kids in Bellbrook are a bunch of spoiled rich kids who tend to hide behind there mommies and daddies who run with the coaches to the bar after the game in order to be buddy buddy with them for their kids to play. Bellbrook only has a handful, and a small handful at that, that put in the time and effort to be great. The rest simply go through the motions because mommy and daddy will take care of everything. Sad thing is, is that's the same old "good ole boy country club" mentality that was there when I played. I guess things NEVER change.

I agree with Cougar that there is a problem with the coaching at Bellbrook. I know that comes as a big surprise to many on this board. I do think that Base focuses on less than a handful of kids and plays them the entire game, both sides of the ball until they cannot move at the end when they are needed. He has been this way for a long time and I am sure he will be this way for a long time to come. He also reminds me of the movie "The Water Boy" when the coach is afraid of the competing coach. Base chokes when it comes to the big competitive games. He gets flustered and takes too long to come up with plays, most times ending in either a time out burned or a delay of game penalty. There is also predictability of plays. When the entire stand can tell you what the play is before they even get into formation, you are predictable. As the coach of the other team, all I have to do is have my defense focus on two or three players....easy defense. As far as getting kids to play, if you have a great or even good program, the kids will come. If your program is faltering, then it is harder to get kids to take so much time out of their lives to play on a team that you know only plays a handful and maybe have a 50% win rate. It is time for Base to step up or seek some talent that will make the calls for him.
Don't get me wrong, I personally like Base. My beef with him is he has lost the fire that he needs to get things done in Bellbrook. I know he reads this board as does his wife and her friends. Base, its time to get the fire back in your belly man! You were good, you could be great if you put your mind to it instead of everything else going on around you.
Good luck to The "Golden" Eagles and the SWBL this year.

Sportsfan, you do make some valid points. We sometimes disagree but I do respect your postings.

Here is my question: if they do what you predict (not win many games), where does that leave Fairmont? With a school that large, you would think they would be a powerful program. What should happen if they have yet another disappointing season?

Coaches are not the ones responsible for getting kids out to play. Kids do what they want to do or they have parents who make them play because they think their kid is a star. Kids today do what they want to and most of them don't like the hard work it takes to be a great football player. That is why you only get star players every so many years. Alot of kids are lazy and just don't care about playing sports. Being out there on Friday nights with the crowds and the band playing was enough for me to get hyped up and want to play football every year. Plus winning was alot more fun than losing so my teammates and I knew that hard work prevented losing. So we sacrificed alot for winning games. Alot of kids do not want to do that. No matter what kind of coaching they are getting.

Ok i am with that and i understand that there were many more players than the ones i listed that made bellbrook a team over the last 11 years under basinger. however you state that you think it is just "getting the right kids to come out and play" GUESS WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE KIDS OUT TO PLAY??? THE COACH AND HIS STAFF!!!!!!!! If you continually alienate people, show favoritism, nepotism, treat players differently whose parents have money!! Eventually the kids that bellbrook needs to be on the field are replace by the ones that the coaches "favor" or that they are pressured into playing becuase of overzealous parents. This has been a bellbrook problem for longer than basinger has been there but it has gotten worse since he has been there. You know there is a reason that highschool coaches don't often go on to coach in college and it usually due to them not being able to handle to pressure of actually having to evaluate talent and improve players ability. This alumni played for basinger and then played in college and the more i watch bellbrook year and and year out the more it becomes apparrent that bellbrook is falling behind teams with better coaches, Alter, Milton Union, Eaton....that shouldn't happen. If the coach could create some excitement around the program more kids would play.

I'm sorry but there were alot more great players in the program than the ones you listed below. Yeah those were great players but they wouldn't have been so great without a great team around them. Jack O'Dell's brother Charlie was a great player and then the Cook brothers, Austin Spitler, Jordan Ross, Justin Frost, McKinnis, Chad Clemens, Tyler Shartle, Billy Chrisovergis, Joe Hodapp. The teams wouldn't have done as good as they did without these guys and good coaching. Then you have Joe Kenny the equipment guy who has been around since Bellbrook was founded. This program has a great core of coaches and staff. Sometimes you get kids that play hard but are just not "football players." I feel that coaching is not the problem it's geting the right kids in the school to play.
